Congratulations to one of the "leaders" in the industry and welcome back Mike Varney!
Former Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce executive Michael Varney has been named president and CEO of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
Varney succeeds Sharon Powers, who last year announced plans to resign after almost 10 years with the chamber.
Varney served as vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 2006.
He then held the position of CEO of Nevada Corporate Headquarters, an incorporation and resident agent firm in Las Vegas, and has also done consulting work for chambers of commerce and non-profit organizations.
"Our members are going to benefit greatly from (Varney's) expertise and the types of programming he will bring to our organization,” said Joe Cain, the North Las Vegas Chamber’s 2010 Chairman of the Board of Directors.
"The key to improving our current economic situation hinges on the health and prosperity of business, especially small business,” Varney said in a statement issued by the chamber. “A vibrant local economy creates jobs and opportunity. When there are jobs, there are paychecks. When there are paychecks, families have greater choice in their purchasing decisions.
"The central focus of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce going forward will be to support the local business owner with the products and services they need to succeed in this economy or any economy. I look forward to working with an energized and passionate board of directors and the hundreds of members of this dedicated organization to promote the best possible local economic conditions and quality of life in North Las Vegas," Varney said.
